It’s finally starting to feel a little bit like spring, and all I can think about is champagne picnics and tea parties in fields of flowers. My most recent sewing project, the Wilder Gown by Friday Pattern Company, is absolutely perfect for dreamy spring and summer days!
I actually was recommended the Wilder pattern when I was looking to make a sheer maxi dress (stay tuned for that…) but when I saw the photos from the pattern, I was totally on board with the prarie/cottagecore vibes. It reminded me a lot of the Loveshackfancy x Target collab from last year – I did pick up one dress from that, but making my own version instead of going fast fashion is definitely a goal of my sewing. Browsing around for fabric, I fell in love with a super flowy floral-print cotton voile from Mood Fabrics with metallic detailing.

This is my first compelted dress! It was a super straightforward, easy sew. Just a few pattern pieces, and the tiers can be ripped out of a woven fabric which felt very dramatic and #Fashion. I would say that getting the gathering on the tiers even was the trickiest part of the pattern, but it really just takes patience (which I often lack when working on a project…). I really liked the little encouraging illustrations on the pattern pieces and the advice to take a break and drink some water if you’re getting stressed out with your sewing. I definitely need that reminder sometimes!

The pattern goes from XS-4X; I sewed a 2X without modifications. I think in the future I would make a full bust adjustment since the top seam doesn’t hit exactly where I would prefer, but it’s definitely totally wearable as is. I really like that the pattern comes with options for different sleeves as well as a cut off point to make the dress into a top instead. I have a plan to make another dress version of the Wilder, but I definitely see myself making the blouse version as well.
I definitely recommend the Wilder for beginning sewists and anyone who wants a delightful flowy dress for some frolicking this summer. See you in the meadows!
