5 Easy Ways to Keep Your Halloween Spirit Alive All Year Long

Friends, I am so excited to be sharing a guest post today from Miranda of Spooky Little Halloween! I had so much fun sharing Halloween-themed posts in my Glam Ghoul’s Guide, and I know I’m not the only one bummed that Halloween is over. Luckily, Miranda is here to save the day. She blogs about Halloween year-round, so I knew she would be the perfect person to provide some advice on how to keep the Halloween spirit alive when October has come and gone. Get her advice after the jump!

In the infamous words of Tim Burton, “every day is Halloween isn’t it? For some of us…” I am definitely one of those people. Skulls have found their way into my year-round living room decor. I wear creepy jewelry in April, and this past spring I finally gave my bedroom a subtle Halloween-inspired makeover. And heck – I run a year-round Halloween blog at spookylittlehalloween.com. It doesn’t get any more obsessed-with-Halloween than that, does it?

So what do you do when you’re one of those Halloween people…and your favorite holiday has passed?

You take Tim Burton’s advice and make every day Halloween, of course!

“But how…?” you might be wondering. Well, as a girl who blogs about Halloween all year long, I’m here to share my 5 best ideas with you:

Dress the Part

Who says your favorite pumpkin necklace or your skull-covered dress has to be reserved for October? I have fun slipping my favorite Halloween clothing and accessories into my everyday wardrobe all year long. It’s a fun way to feel a little Halloweeny when it’s the middle of February and you’ve got the wintertime blues.

Consume Halloween Content

Whether you’re a reader, a movie lover or a music snob, there is no shortage of ways to intake Halloween goodness all year. Take your favorite Halloween read to the beach in June. Watch your favorite spooky movie on your birthday. Listen to a Halloween playlist or album in January.

Make a Creepy Meal or Cocktail

One of my favorite ways to make it feel like Halloween when there are hundreds of days until the next holiday is by making a creepy dish or cocktail. Following The Necro-nomnomnomicon is one of my favorite spots to stay inspired for making creepy meals all year long, and I love whipping up my own Beetlejuice margarita when I need a little something to drink after a long day.

Start Planning for Next Year

Planning for Halloween never really ends in my world. I might be halfway through making this year’s costume, but I’m already brainstorming next year’s in the back of my mind. You can do this too by searching for ideas for next year’s costume, beginning plans for a party or even getting a jump start on that one Halloween DIY project you’ve been dying – no pun intended – to make.

Halloween Shop at Thrift Stores

In addition to people using thrift and resale stores as a place to dump unwanted holiday decor, some retailers’ products also find their way to these shelves as they clear out this year’s stock. One of my favorite things to do when I’m missing Halloween something fierce is hit up a local Goodwill and hunt for Halloween. Sometimes I find treasures, other times I find nothing…but I always have fun and leave feeling a bit more excited about next Halloween.

And, of course, you can celebrate with me! I blog all year long at spookylittlehalloween.com and each week I send my favorite readers a Halloween treat in my Treats Not Tricks email. (Subscribe here!)
